Boris
Yefman
is a Russian - born artist who has lived in Canada since 1990. He received
his Bachelor of Arts and Masters Degree in Art from the University of
N. K. Krupskaya in Moscow.
Over the years of his carreer he mastered such techniques as watercolor,
acrylic, oil on the canvas, pastel, color pencil and digital art.
His works convey the "Joie de Vivre" of everyday life. In his
current work he is exploring his newly found Judaic roots.
Artist would like to explain why it took a little longer to find his true
faith and devotion.
Boris Yefman was born in Moscow in 1940. After his graduation of the University
in 1963 he began career as an artist. The Soviet reality turned out to
be much more powerful than a traditional Jewish upbriging. Jews in Russia
were made to feel afraid of their own religion and it was
forbidden to practice it. The government did not leave Jews a the slightest
chance to learn anything about the history, religion or the customs of
Jewish people.
Boris left the former Soviet Union with his wife and a sixteen year old
daughter in 1989 and arrived in Montreal. It was here that Boris finally
felt liberated enough to learn as much as he could about Jewish religion.
He developed a great interest in Judaism and passionately absorbed all
the information he could get his hands on. His colors and strokes reflect
happiness and spiritual movement.
There
are many differend subjects that he paints:
Jewish Holidays:
"Rosh Hashanah", "First Day of Hanukah", "Shabbat",
"Shofar Melody".
Customs:
"Jewlsh Wedding", "Bar Mitzvah", " Bat Torah",
"Western Wall", "Khupa", "New Man".
Bible's subject:
"Exodus", "Scroll of Esther", "Jacob's Dream",
"Sacrifice of Isaac", "Deluge" and so on.
In
Russia Boris has worked in Moscow's leading Design company "PROMGRAFIKA".
He is participant of many design and book international exhibitions.
In Canada Boris found own design company "BOLINART" which is
carry out corporate identity, logos, brochures, catalogues, posters, illustrations
for magazines and books.
